Burro-de-miranda

The donkey breed "burro-de-miranda" has its origins in the region of "Terra de Miranda", district of Bragança, North-East of Portugal.

This donkey has its own characteristics of physique and temperament. Being extremely friendly, it has a robust stature, measuring about 1.35 metres tall, has large hooves, dark brown, long and thick hair, and big hairy ears.

Currently, the "burro-de-miranda" is in danger of extiction, mainly due to the mechanization of farm work that this animal used to do. This resulted in the donkey having a less important role in the rural world, and therefore its breeding has been reduced.

The Herdade Serra do Loureiro, with its environmental management policy, is proud of contributing to the preservation of this indigenous breed of donkeys.
